“I always leave feeling uplifted and optimistic about the community”
— April '26 Purpose Forum attendee

Hello Netweaver,

May’s Purpose Forum, Generations Showing Up, is about something many people quietly wonder:

How do I get more involved in the community in a way that feels meaningful, realistic, and true to who I am?

This month’s fireside conversation brings together two people at very different stages of life who are each making a meaningful impact in the Grand Valley.

Mona Highline, founder of The Joseph Center, has spent years creating pathways forward for people in need of hope, dignity, and support. Michael Nuttail, a full-time engineering student at Colorado Mesa University and Connect for Good ambassador, represents a younger generation of community leadership through volunteering, nonprofit board service, and relationship-building across the region.

What connects them isn’t age, career path, or life experience. It’s a shared commitment to showing up for the good of the community—and a belief that contribution can take many forms.

There’s also a meaningful thread connecting this month’s forum to April’s conversation. Mona has been one of the mentors supporting Elyse, whose story moved so many people at last month’s Purpose Forum.

One attendee reflected:

Kenneth and Elyse's dynamic. I loved how Kenneth, the mentor, was humble and showcased his mentee, while Elyse is vibrant and reflects Kenneth's support by supporting others.”

That spirit of encouragement, mentorship, and people investing in one another across generations continues this month.

Whether you’re exploring new ways to contribute, looking for deeper connection, or simply wanting to spend time with people who care about the future of the Grand Valley, I hope you’ll join us on May 27.

Monthly updates from Mesa County

Independence looks different for everyone.

For many people, transportation is routine. For others, it is the key to staying connected to work, medical care and the community.

That is why services like Grand Valley Transit Paratransit matter.

GVT Paratransit provides door-to-door transportation for residents who cannot use traditional bus routes due to disabilities or mobility limitations. The service helps residents maintain independence and stay active in daily life.

Recently, Mesa County shared Rochelle’s story. Rochelle has worked at the Grand Junction Fire Department for nearly 12 years and relies on GVT Paratransit to get to work and participate in activities she enjoys, including horseback riding.

Stories like this are a reminder that local government services are not always highly visible, but they can have a meaningful impact on people’s lives.
