June 2026 Newsletter
“We are so lucky to have such wonderful people in our community.”
Hello Netweaver,
In a time when so many people feel rushed, isolated, or stuck in surface-level interaction, there’s something deeply refreshing about walking into a room where people are genuinely glad to see one another.
Where conversation feels warm instead of performative.
Where laughter, encouragement, fresh ideas, and meaningful connection are shared around lunch tables.
Where people leave feeling lighter, energized, hopeful, and more connected to community life.
That’s the spirit behind this month’s Purpose Forum.
In June, Together Into Visibility explores what becomes possible when more people—and more stories—feel welcomed into community life. Through storytelling, civic engagement, and relationship-building, we’ll explore how visibility, listening, and everyday human connection help strengthen trust, belonging, and the future of our community.
Featured Speakers
Iriana Medina Leo — Executive Director of La Plaza, serving and empowering the Latino and immigrant community in Mesa County. Originally from Venezuela, Iriana is passionate about helping people feel seen, valued, and connected to community life.
Alex Forsett — Director of Statewide Civic Engagement at Rocky Mountain Public Media. Alex leads initiatives focused on storytelling, dialogue, and civic participation across Colorado.
Though they come from different backgrounds and experiences, both speakers share a belief that stronger communities emerge when more voices are welcomed into the conversation.

Local Act of Goodness
Each month, we’ll highlight simple yet powerful acts of generosity happening across the Grand Valley—because community health grows through everyday contributions.
💛 Over the past three years, the Grand Junction Police Department and La Plaza have partnered to build trust and connection with Spanish-speaking community members through community mixers, trainings for La Plaza members about police practices and law enforcement interactions, and an ongoing hygiene supply drive supporting the families and individuals La Plaza serves. Together, these efforts help bring people together and support everyone who calls Grand Junction home.

How residents can influence county decisions
One of the most common questions I hear is: How can residents have a voice in county decisions?
The answer is that public input often begins long before a final decision reaches the Board of County Commissioners.
Whether it's a road project, a land use proposal or a long-range planning effort, residents have opportunities to learn about projects, ask questions and share feedback throughout the process.
Recently, Mesa County invited residents to help shape the next phase of improvements to Coffman Road in Whitewater. Community members had an opportunity to review project information, ask questions and provide feedback that will help guide the final design.
Residents also had an opportunity to learn about and comment on proposed updates to the Mesa County Land Development Code during a Planning Commission workshop. Additional opportunities for public comment will be available as the proposed updates move forward through future planning and public hearings.
These examples highlight two common ways residents can participate before decisions are made:
Public meetings and open houses allow residents to learn about projects, ask questions and share feedback with staff.
Public hearings provide an opportunity for residents to offer formal comments before elected officials or appointed boards make decisions.
Residents can also stay informed by reviewing meeting agendas, attending hearings in person or online and following county news and project updates.
Public input helps decision-makers better understand community needs, identify concerns and make more informed choices.
Local government works best when residents stay engaged and share their perspectives.
